Overview
A river runs through it
At Shambala your time is your own. You might choose to start your day with an exhilarating wildlife drive, followed by a leisurely breakfast at the Zulu Camp bistro area and a refreshing dip in the plunge pool. An African dinner is served in the dining area overlooking the river and the rock face. Later on you can enjoy a nightcap by the fireside. Every evening a campfire is lit in the open lapa area to take in the great African sky.
Chalets
It is an experience of a lifetime to stay in one of Zulu Camp’s traditional honeycomb-shaped chalets in the heart of the bushveld, with streams from the nearby river running through the camp. As the camp is not fenced off, the chalets look out over the wild, natural bushveld. From early morning until dusk the air is filled with echoing birdcalls, emphasizing the uniqueness of being part of the natural surroundings.
Each chalet is furnished and decorated in chic Afro-French Provincial style, with its own refreshing outdoor shower.
Luxury Chalet
The spacious luxury chalet has its own private entrance, with the well appointed bedroom featuring a dressing room and leading out to the romantically situated outdoor shower and bathroom. The doors from the bathroom open out onto a wooden deck with views of the surrounding bush.
Cuisine
At Shambala personalised cuisine takes on a whole new meaning. The world class Chefs take the greatest pleasure in preparing dishes to suit your individual tastes, accompanied by wine pairings including classic vintages from renowned local and international wine estates.
Spa
As you approach the Spa entrance along a stone pathway you get a sense of the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the reception area with its refreshment bar and nail bar with comfortable armchairs.
A walkway leads you through to the large double or two single treatment suites. The Spa offers all the traditional spa treatments in this unique bushveld setting.
Step out onto the wooden deck to enjoy a healthy spa refreshment while taking in the views over the river bed, with the sound of the water forming the perfect backdrop to the tranquillity of the surrounds.
Elephant Safaris
One of the most memorable activities at Shambala is going on an elephant safari. These elephants were originally relocated from Zimbabwe, where their existence was under severe threat. They are trained and cared for by their experienced trainers with whom they share a close bond.
Bush Picnics
Bush picnics at Shambala are romantic and unforgettable, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the African bush with its abundant wildlife and lilting birdcalls.
Star Gazing
One of the most magical experiences at Shambala is spending a few hours in the silence of the African bush under the Milky Way, getting a whole new dimension on life and discovering the awe-inspiring wonders of galaxies, constellations and stars.
