Overview
The St. James of Knysna is an exclusive, owner run, five star Country House Hotel uniquely situated directly on the shores of the famous Knysna Lagoon. The luxuriously appointed Suites & Rooms offer spectacular views across this peaceful lagoon to the dramatic Knysna Heads or over the magnificent 3-acre gardens. Whether you are in the Manor House or the Courtyard, all the rooms and suites feature en-suite bathrooms, mini bars, tea/coffee making facilities, satellite television, safes, direct-dial telephones, bathrobes and hairdryers.
The Manor House
At the Manor House you’ll find the luxurious George Rex and Lady Anne Suites, both situated on the first floor boasting large lagoon facing balconies. Along with these you’ll find two garden facing Deluxe Suites and a smaller double Room. Downstairs you’ll find the Twin Palms Restaurant, Paquita Bar, Main Lounge and Reception.
The Courtyard
The Courtyard, which is adjacent to the Manor House, consists of 4 Superior Suites, 3 of which are Lagoon facing, all with balconies are located on the upper floor and 3 Deluxe Lagoon facing Suites and two Junior Suites nestle around the Mediterranean courtyard with a private swimming pool.
Twin Palms Restaurant
The Twin Palms Restaurant at the St James is a fine dining restaurant where Head Chef Rob Morrison offers a range of dishes with the emphasis being on “Local” dishes and produce. Twin Palms also has a very good wine list to accompany these dishes. Rob is supported by Cynthia Nyaku (Sous Chef) and Justine Le Riche, the Pastry Chef, who sees to all the home baked breads, desserts and cakes for High Tea. Twin Palms also offers a Terrace Menu, for light meals in the delightful gardens of St James.
Paquita Bar
The bar at St James was named after “The Paquita”, a German vessel, which sank on the eastern side of the Knysna Heads way back in 1903. The Paquita Bar at St James has a beautiful view over the lagoon towards the Heads, and is adjacent to the pool area. Enjoy the Paquita Bar at St James – a cozy bar with a fireplace, a place to enjoy a cold beer or cocktail after a long day of exploring. The Paquita Bar at St James - offers a variety of French Champagnes, local wines and cocktails to choose from before enjoying a Fine Dining Experience or our Terrace Lunch.
Leisure
Knysna is an activity destination! The St James of Knysna has two swimming pools, a Pentanque pit, and a wonderful garden is which to just relax and unwind. We are situated on the banks of the Knysna Lagoon and therefore offer fishing along with a few canoes for Guests who wish to go for a paddle. Situated very close to Knysna we have wonderful Golf Courses, hikes, sight-seeing and beaches. Other activities provided by outside operators include Mountain Bike tours, fishing charters, Kite Surfing and SUP (Stand up Paddling), whale and dolphin watching and hiking. There is never a dull moment in Knysna – unless requested!
